Sketchbook Group

There is no meeting in December, and January’s meeting will be combined with our AGM and Winter Social on Monday 15th January at the Pickled Plum. AGM business will be kept to a minimum so that we can then relax and enjoy a sociable evening. All members attending will be given a £5 subsidy on the food and/or drink of their choice. Please email Frans Swarte to book your place as soon as possible.

Our October meeting was an enjoyable evening in the meeting room at the Town Hall, where we experimented with relief printmaking using lino and Softcut. In the limited time available, everyone managed to create a design and print a proof. We plan to follow this up with a further session of printmaking in the new year.

November’s meeting was a gathering at Number 8 to see a screening of “Loving Vincent”. In the world’s first fully painted feature film, Vincent van Gogh’s paintings are brought to life to tell his story, and the mystery surrounding his death. If you missed it, do look out for another opportunity to see this beautiful film.

Members who enjoy sketching are welcome to join our Sketchbook meetings. These are informal and friendly gatherings where we share recent work and chat about all things art over a drink or two. We usually meet in the convivial surrounds of The Star, Bridge Street at 7.30pm – for dates, see the Calendar.

On Wednesday 25th July we will have a special meeting at the home of Jenny Devos. We will gather at 7.30pm to watch a 60 minute film on JMW Turner followed by discussion. We will send details out to members by email.

April’s sketchbook outing was a visit to Slimbridge Wetland Centre. Members met there at 10am and explored the bird habitats with cameras initially, before settling down to some sketching. The visit was well-timed for chicks, cygnets and goslings, but the glamorous flamingos grabbed the spotlight!

The next meeting will be at 7.30pm in the Upstairs Bar at Number 8 on 21st Decmber. This month’s suggested topic is "Night Photography". bring charged camera, tripod & dress warm! If the weather is poor, bring work on the topic of "Time". Members who like taking photos are welcome to come along and share their work on this theme or any other. Meetings are relaxed and friendly and there is always something to be learnt from the way other people use their cameras. Work can be shared in print or via your tablet / iPad, so you don’t have to go to any expense.

June’s meeting on Thursday 21st begins at 7.30pm in No. 8 as usual but then Geoff will give everyone a task to go into the street and shoot. Set your cameras to JPEG so we can easily review our efforts back at No. 8 later.
If it is raining please bring prints as usual, on the topic of Street Life & Scenes.

July’s meeting on Thursday 19th will be based at Number 8 as usual on the theme of “Creatures” - wildlife, pets, farm.

Exhibiting

Our exhibition at Evesham Arts Centre has been in place since 7th November 2017 and runs until 5th February 2018. The arts centre is an excellent venue for live acts and film, on a fairly intimate scale - it’s well worth looking at the calendar of events and if you visit, check out our exhibition while you’re there.

More exhibitions have been lined up for next year - come along to the AGM to find out more.

We try to organise regular exhibitions at a variety of venues throughout the year. Our next exhibiting opportunity is at Pershore Abbey on Bank Holiday Monday 27th August from 10am - 4pm. Setting up takes place from 4.45pm to 6pm on Sunday 26th. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Frans or another member of the committee.

An Evening with Pershore Arts

An exciting opportunity to spread the word about Pershore Arts has been offered by Number 8 Community Arts Centre. We have been invited to present an evening of art discussion at Number 8 in September. Four of our members are lined up to give short illustrated talks about their work and media of choice. If you would also like to be a speaker at this event, please contact Frans or another member of the committee.
